![]() ![]() This requires a new philosophy of the simulators' design – they should be able to reproduce real ECGs. Keywords: ECG simulator, ECG device testing, long-term ECG databases The main advantages of the proposed simulator are the expanded memory capacity (more than 41/2hours of 8 bit, 125 Hz ECG), the easy approach for reconfiguration of the memory content, data format and sampling frequency, and the possibility to reproduce the real recording conditions of the long-term training ECG databases. The functionality of the ECG simulator prototype was verified by testing some automatic external defibrillators produced by Schiller Company and in-house developed ventricular fibrillation detection module. The ECG simulator memory was loaded with a synthesized set of 4s ECG patterns, which cover the most common real life rhythms and with ECG segments, extracted from long-duration ECG databases. Size – 14 x 7.5 x 3 cm Weight – 205 g (without batteries). Power supply – three rechargeable accumulators type AA (1.2V). Isolated PC connection with RS232, providing the possibility for reading, writing and configuration of the memory segments by using in-house developed PC software Pace button - pacing pulse with 0.5V amplitude, 1ms duration and 800ms period 4 functional buttons - On/Off, Play/Stop, Forward and Backward rewinding 2 functional buttons for selection of one of the available two fixed memory segments for test signals with 8 bits data format, 250 Hz sampling frequency 8, 10 and 12 bit format of the sampled data.ECG data with the following characteristics can be loaded: 8 functional buttons for selection of one of the available eight configurable memory segments. 12-bit D/A converter and two output amplitude ranges (-5mV5mV) and (0V4V) 2 MB supplementary data flash memory with SPI interface control PIC18F452 microcontroller, including 1536B RAM and 32kB FLASH memory Technical specifications of the developed ECG simulator prototype: By including normal sinus rhythms, different arrhythmia types and test waveforms, the proposed device becomes also suitable both for medical equipment maintenance and educational purposes. It should be able to generate analog signals of hours duration and to reproduce the amplitude and frequency accuracy of the standardised training databases. Bl.105, 1113, Sofia, Bulgaria, e-mail: aim of the present work was to develop a portable one-channel ECG simulator prototype, needed for testing of automatic diagnosis software methods implemented in real ECG devices.
